On Obama’s Proposed Budget Freeze, Donut Be Deceived!

President Obama is going to propose a budget freeze during tonight’s State of the Union speech. People who have no greater understanding of economics and finance will celebrate. I’m here to tell you why you shouldn’t.

A budget freeze doesn’t help. It is not going to bring the economy or our spending under control. There will be no vast improvements. A budget freeze means an attempt to stop things as they are. Things as they are remain very unhealthy.

Think of it in terms of weight loss. Imagine your diet consists of only donuts. Every day you add one donut to each meal. This is an extremely unhealthy lifestyle. Imagine now you want to lose weight so you decide to “freeze” your budget of donuts. At the time of your proposed “freeze” you are eating 10 donuts for each meal. What good will a freeze do? To improve the situation you have to decrease your intake! You will never lose weight with a freeze.

So too is the case for the national budget. We spend, spend, spend, and now the President proposes a freeze? A freeze will only keep us “frozen” at an unsustainable level. Don’t be tricked or deceived. If the President was at all concerned with making an improvement he would end the Iraq conflict (hundreds of millions upon hundreds of million spent a day) and propose a repeal of all the disgraceful anti-market, anti-business, anti-human laws (Patriot act, Sarbanes, etc).

This is just a marketing gimmick. Donut be deceived!
