It was revealed or re-revealed depending on what your particular online news source is. All of the bells and whistles are covered on a million other sites so I won’t waste my time. My purpose is to look at it from a different angle. I think from the unveiling that the iPhone 4 is a home run. So much so that I will end up with one. However it won’t be the day of launch.

I think the phone is an excellent representation of what great engineering can do. Sleek, sexy, and functional with all the neat features like an hd screen, video chat, and proper multitasking. So why not get it on day one? That’s simple, why put myself in a position to be disappointed or fall victim to early adopter blues? With every big launch comes some sort of issue, be it battery, glass, memory, hardware, or whatever. My take is let everyone else get it, play with it for a few days and lets see what the internet has to say once all the hype dies down. I am sure launch will go off without a problem but waiting a few days might be key, that goes for any hyped launch.
Beyond that iOS4 launches on the 21st, so what am I really missing? A better camera? A better screen? Sure these things are really nice but it’s not like I can’t live without them. My 3GS does everything I need it to do, and how many people will I be able to video chat with anyway? Thus far I know one. Yes, my brother, so I’m in no rush. If you asked me the iPhone 4 is what the iPhone should have been right after the 3G. We didn’t and shouldn’t have had a 3GS. However as everyone knows that is just Apple milking the cash cow. Can you blame them? If I had that many fans I’d release half articles and posts.
So there it is, the iPhone 4 looks great, I can’t wait to get one, but not right off the rip. Maybe a week or two deep. I would be so mad if I ran into a bunch of issues at launch and really – who wants to stand in line or deal with the mad hatter fan boys?

Wednesday I had a chance to play with the hype machine that is the Apple iPad. I haven't really been following the surge in sales and in hype because frankly I'm not really into the product. I found my way into Best Buy (I find Best Buy much less of a hassle than the Apple Store mainly because I'm not attacked by hungry sales reps *right away) with all of my preconceived opinions and to make things short and sweet they all ended up being true.
I like the iPad, I really do! Beautiful screen, great design, and all around simple to use but honestly it's just off. For starters the price is outlandish, $499 is the cheapest model and you aren't getting much storage at all (16 gigs). For $499 you could set yourself up with a fantastic netbook running a full version of Windows 7 or even Mac OSX if you are savvy enough! Chances are it will have a hard drive with close to if not more than 200gb. Things like this really set me back. Beyond that it lacks so many features! No USB, no card reader, no camera, no file system. Like so many people have said, this is really like an iPod Touch on steroids. I really can't justify spending a minimum of $500 to buy this thing, not to mention if you want wireless 3g you bump up to $629! Outlandish!
To be honest we all know why this thing will sell, it's the App Store. We all love our iPhones and iPod Touchs' because of the amazing third party applications and games that have been created by an amazing community of developers. This, the iPad is just another way to deliver that content. Bravo to Apple for seeing a market and exploiting it however those with common sense will see right through that and wait for the price to match the ability of the product. I love my iPhone, love it! However I don't own it because of the love for the hardware, I love what is available on it and for it. That's a fact.
Apple has once again done what it does best, take ideas that have been around for years and years and it makes them better, maybe even more refined and simple. Small laptops and netbooks are quite popular now so Apple gave birth to the iPad. A locked down version of a netbook at twice the cost and half the features. Imagine a world with no App Store similar to the early days of the iPhone… would you own an iPad under those conditions? No you wouldn't. I look forward to version two but more importantly I look forward to the new iPhone G4 coming this summer. The iPhone can do everything an iPad can… and more.
There are more and more details leaking all over the web about the eagerly anticipated official Google phone. The phone is called the Nexus One (might just be a codename) and it is beautiful. Google is said to be working with HTC for the design but in actuality is calling all the shots. Little is confirmed about the phone but the general consensus is that it will be sold unlocked, meaning you choose your cell phone service provider! Very daring of Google but I believe this will pay off.
Based on the Twitter buzz and those who have the phone in hand it is said to be a thin and sleek sporting a beautiful touch screen. iPhone users have tweeted that the Google phone is an iPhone on steroids. I guess we have to imagine that if anyone can honestly be a threat to the number one smart phone in the world it would be Google. Very excited on the simple picture and I hope I get a chance to put my hands on the phone very soon!

So I finally got Google Chrome installed on my netbook. It was a fairly painless operation that took no more than 20 minutes with the download and boot configuration. It took a minute to get a root password to login. The entire OS works off of an Internet connection so I ran into a snag when I was trying to login with my Google information. Without the net there was no way to verify it so once I finally hunted down the root info I was ready to roll.
All in all the OS is quick and peppy, however there isn't much to it. Think of it as a web browser that has some icons that link to specific websites. That is really all it is! Chrome OS is the Chrome browser with a few added features. Everything is a web app. There are no executable files or anything of that nature. All Chrome OS does is take web app (websites) like Twitter and Facebook and link them on a panel that has a nice little icon.
I guess the beauty of the OS is the fact it will be free. Netbook providers can now offer cheaper products because they don't need to pay Microsoft a fortune to OEM Windows. For what it does it works well. It provides you with a portal to the Internet while making all of Google's toys easy to access and always available. I am sure as time goes on there will be a ton of extensions however as it stands right now there isn't really anything I need this for.
All in all if you have a netbook and use it strictly for Internet use then you can't go wrong with this. However if you use your netbook to chat on AIM or listen to some mp3's via Winamp, sync your iPod or sort through some Digicam photos, this isn't the right OS for you. This isn't really an OS, it's a web OS.
