I have owned my iPad for about 4 months now. It has become my go-to device to read news, tweets, and consume tons of video content. I use it more than I use my MacBook Pro. It has excellent battery life and I couldn’t be happier with it. Or can I?
The current iPad does what it is meant to do very well. The iPad has iOS 4.2 which brings multi-tasking, folders and a whole list of new features and improvements. It just works. Even with gaming, Anyone can point the finger at Angry Birds as the go to game for any iOS device, but I find myself playing Fruit Ninja and Cut the Rope far more often that Angry Birds. When it comes to media the YouTube app alone can keep you entertained for hours, but when you add Netflix, TED Talks and the PBS app you can spend days watching on demand video content. Plus with iTunes, Pandora and other music apps the iPad becomes a media powerhouse.
What makes the iPad so great is that it is a very personal device that does a lot of everything. While you cannot load your RAW images into Aperture on it. You can however read your favorite novel on one of many eBook apps. You can download a drawing app and doodle up a storm, you can download your favorite news app and read up on the latest that is happening in the world. It takes that 80-90% of what we do on a full computer (i.e. web browsing, social networking, consuming various bits of content) and makes it one awesome experience.
Now with Apple’s yearly product cycle we are approaching the end of the iPad and are anticipating the announcement of the iPad 2. As an iPad user somethings I am looking for are: HD screen above anything, with the amount of video content available on the iPad it becomes a necessity that HD is implemented. The iPad screen looks great now but with HD I can imagine it would only get better. Apple needs to find a way to make the iPad even speedier. It is quick now, but if it were faster it would make the experience that much better. Thinner and lighter would be a welcome change too.
Regarding cameras: I do like the idea of a front facing camera, it can be an awesome addition. However I do not understand the need of a rear facing camera. To me it would seem a bit odd to use an iPad as a point and shoot camera. But if the iPad 2 comes with a front and rear camera I would not dislike the product any less. I would simply chalk it up to an additional feature that is available for use.
We will all have to wait and see what Mr. Jobs has in store for us when he decides to announce the new iPad, I know one thing is for certain. I will be pre-ordering one or even waiting outside my local Apple store to get my hands on one. I cannot imagine daily computing life without access to my iPad.
