It is speculated that “government” (or at least actors acting in the name of or “on behalf” of an entity that cannot act itself) has claimed the lives of at least 174,000,000 people. Yes, that is one hundred and seventy-four million people.
R.J. Rummel — the man who calculated these numbers, has now gone on record with some unfortunate and frightening revisions. Dan Vander writes:
“R.J. Rummel has revised his famous estimate of the number of people killed by governments during the 20th century from 174,000,000 to 262,000,000. Pre-20th century totals are harder to calculate, of course. He estimates at least 133 and perhaps as many as 625 million.”
When will this madness end? Government seems to be a bigger threat than any other entity over the 20th century. What does the 21st century have in store for us?
