Slackerstyle Lite goes live on Posterous

Posted on October 7, 2009 by Jay Farmington

I spent the last few days working on getting a live version of the Posterous theme up. It is my pleasure to present the official Slackerstyle Posterous theme "Slackerstyle Lite". It is a port of the original Slackerstyle.com theme which I have been using since before you were born. Seriously though while it is up and running here there are still a few bugs I need to work out and then I will release it for download. I would like to thank my brother (http://randyicj.posterous.com) for some last minute CSS fixes and his sharp eye.

I am pretty excited to finish it, please leave feedback if you are interested in the release and what if anything you would like to see included in the theme. Remember Posterous does not yet let javascript to be embedded so I can't do much for things like including Twitter or Facebook widgets. I would like to work on a way for the user to upload their own top art however it seems like Posterous resizes this uploaded image to a width of 500px which is insufficient. I will see what can be done. Details will be posted here!

Either way I hope you enjoy it! Check back soon.

The new Facebook app for iPhone 3.0 coming very very soon!

Posted on July 5, 2009 by Jay Farmington

I forgot to post about this earlier but it has been announced or leaked that the new Facebook app for the iPhone 3.0 software is nearly finished. This is a big deal because Facebook remains one of the iPhone's most downloaded applications. Joe Hewitt is the brains behind the original app and he has taken to his blog to announce some of the new features. The new app is cram packed with all of the features that people have been requesting since version 1 of the app was released.

Some of the features include:

  • The “new” News Feed
  • Like
  • Events (including the ability to RSVP)
  • Notes
  • Pages
  • Create new photo albums
  • Upload photos to any album
  • Zoom into photos
  • Easier photo tagging
  • Profile Pictures albums
  • A new home screen for easy access to all your stuff, search, and notifications
  • Add your favorite profiles and pages to the home screen
  • Better Notifications (they link to the comments so you can reply)
  • Quickly call or text people right from the Friends page
  • Messages you are typing will be restored if you quit or are interrupted by a phone call
  • Video uploading just leaked*

I think this is exactly what needed to happen to really put Facebook ahead of MySpace. We all know the MySpace app is garbage. Now that Facebook and Hewitt have answered the cries of the people I predict we will see more of a decline in MySpace's user base. That coupled with the ability to upload video and push notifications promised for 3.1 I don't see anything stopping Facebook from really burying MySpace. Pictures attached below!
