In an article today the Economist polls their own group of “economists” and asks who the most influential was over the past decade. I laughed.
I think the Economist made a nice attempt but no surprise, they completely ignored all the real economists and stuck with the inflationists, socialists, and statists to fill their poll.
Allow me to do a bit of correcting in terms of a list of the most influential economists of the past and present. It would do them wonders to look some of these distinguished scholars up and give them the exposure they deserve. Unfortunately, the forecast in Hell would need to be snow before this happened.
Of the Past -
- Ludwig von Mises
- Murray N. Rothbard
- Carl Menger
- Henry Hazlitt
- F. A. Hayek
Present -
- Israel Kirzner
- Robert Murphy
- Walter Block
- Hans-Hermann Hoppe
- Thomas DiLorenzo
And that’s just naming a handful of the true economic minds of this and any generation. I could spend an hour listing the names of everyone but these are the one’s that came to mind. No order, no rank, just true economist thought. Brilliance.
The Economist is highly celebrated but it’s high time they show respect to the Austrian school, especially considering we have been right about every major economic event over the last 130+ years.
However, they won’t and that’s fine. You can educate yourself on these matters. Head over to Mises.org and consume everything for free!
